The islands of the Indonesian archipelago are strung like beads across the equator. The name Indonesia has its roots in two Greek words : "Indo" meaning Indian and "Nesos" which means islands. It is really an appropriate description of the archipelago as there are an estimated to be total of 17,508 islands.
